some introductions

Our commitment:

The commitment of Islands Community Church is to love God, to love others, and to magnify the name of Jesus Christ. The heart’s desire of our church is to glorify our God and Savior, Jesus Christ, to make true disciples throughout all the nations by means of missionary activity and support, to minister the ordinances, to edify believers, and to do all that is sovereignly possible and biblically necessary to magnify the name of Jesus.

When we gather we commit to…

Worship: “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4.23). ICC commits to gather on a regular basis with the specific purpose of actively glorifying God together in worship.

Equipping: “And He gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ . . . .” (Ephesians 4.11-12).        ICC commits to develop Christian maturity in every believer for an effective ministry in the church and in the world.

Caring: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13.34-35). ICC commits to develop supernatural, redeeming, loving relationships among its members.

Witnessing: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28.19-20). ICC commits to proclaim the gospel throughout our community, unto the uttermost parts of the earth.

Our Leadership Team:

Our leadership team recognizes the authority of God, and realizes that we are shepherds who serve under the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. We desire to devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word. Our passion and goal is to equip the believers for the work of the ministry until we all attain maturity in the fullness of Christ.

Pastor Kent and Cynthia met at Bible college and married in 1979.  They have three married daughters and eight grandchildren,  They have had the blessing of extended ministries in three Bible churches over thirty-six years.
When Kent and Cynthia came to San Juan Island in the fall of 2019 it was to refresh and wait for what God had next while they attended and became involved in ICC.  As only God can, circumstances brought about changes in the church and Kent was asked if he would be willing to serve as pastor.  How could this clear path be denied?  he answer was ‘yes’!  Kent began his ministry as pastor of Islands Community Church on September 1, 2021.
As a pastor Kent has always had a passion to shepherd God’s people with two guiding principles: Preach the Word and Love the People!  His teaching is expository (verse by verse), practical, and full of application for daily living.  Both he and Cynthia embrace people and love to be involved in their lives through friendship, teaching, counseling, and fellowship whether in their homes, at work, or over a cup of coffee or a meal.

Elder – Gary Covington

Gary has been married to Chris for fifty-two years and they have two grown children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild2
